Annual seats, activated offline
PIGEON is sold per seat on an annual term, and activation is designed for machines that will never reach the internet. It is not built yet. This page states what has been decided and deliberately stops there.
Where this stands
Decided, not built. No PIGEON build today has any activation in it — nothing to activate, nothing that checks an activation, and no portal behind it. Nothing on this page describes something you can use right now.
It is here so you can plan around the commercial shape and hold us to the commitments below. When activation ships, this page will be rewritten to describe what actually runs.
The commercial shape
PIGEON is sold per seat, on an annual term that you renew. That much is settled. How many seats a site needs, and what support belongs alongside them, is the conversation we would rather have with you than guess at on a page — so pricing is on request.
Activation will work with no network at all
This is the constraint the design starts from, not a feature bolted on afterward. The machines PIGEON exists for often have no route to the internet and never will, and an activation scheme that assumes one is useless to them.
So: no callback, no server to reach, and no network requirement at any point — including the first run. Whatever the mechanism turns out to be, it will be something a technician can carry across by hand and complete on a machine that has never been online.
How that exchange actually works is still open, and we are not going to sketch it here. Anything we drew today — what identifies a machine, how a seat moves to replacement hardware, what the steps look like — would be a guess you might plan around, and the point of this page is that there is nothing to plan around yet beyond the commitments on this page.
What happens when a term lapses
Decided, and worth stating precisely, because the obvious version of this would be unacceptable in the places PIGEON runs:
- A transfer already under way will never be interrupted. Whatever is in flight finishes.
- Thirty days of grace, and PIGEON will be loud about it for the whole of that window. A term does not lapse quietly and then surprise you.
- After that, PIGEON will refuse to start new transfers. It will not remove, disable or hold back anything already delivered.
